Kristen's assignment

If I remember correctly Kristen’s assignment is where do we see our selves as artist in 10 15 years? I remember being asked a question similar to that my junior year in high school I believe the question asked where do I see my self in 5 years or so. I remember responding, “probably at a hardcore concert with my lip pierced!” I did the hardcore concert and the lip piercing but I only did it for a while and in high school days I remember thinking hardcore kid was going to be my way of life. Boy was I wrong.
Its been 5 years since that question and I am married, didn’t see that then and 1 semester away from graduating, in my high school days I actually thought I would end up just eazzing my way, and maybe prolong my college carrier and just live a care free life! So back to Kristen’s question, in a perfect world were everything we hope for and plan on happens I would say, I see my self as a well known movie editor it being indi films or major, and while doing that as a major source of income I would be also practicing my video skills it being self diaries VJ or instillations and be well known trough out the world. Better than Mathew barney and his pompous ass. But this is life and life likes to give us a few crazy curves so, my hopes in 15 years as and artist is to still have the skill, practice and talent to still call my self and artist.

Josh Assignment: uncomfortable

Before josh even proposed the assignment I had already encountered my uncomfortable moment. My then future to be sister in law planned my batchlorette party or extravaganza evening. She had a really nice evening planed out dinner and some kind of a bar hoping expiriance. I personally am not much of a bar/club goer not really my cup of tea, something about girls or single middle aged women wishing they were 20 again by wearing a 20 year old wardrobe doesn’t really rub my fancy. Anywho our fist stop was dinner, we had chachos… we hit up other spots till we got Swig north, never herd of it till I saw the sign that night. Well the club/bar is one of those kind that attracts all types of single women waiting to be taken and looking very desperately. By this time I have only had say two drinks not enough to get me sick, but a large amount of chahos king kong nachos and was not feeling very fresh, actually very sick to my stomach, on top of that I am feeling very uncomfortable in this bar because I feel that the ladies there think very mean things when you don’t look up to par to their style and “sluttiness” per say. Any who I get really sick, throwing up sick, at the bar and have to use the facilities several times to handle my issues on top of that having to deal with the stares of these women in the bathroom. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more uncomfortable moment than that. Women scare me specially the ones who try to hard and desperate.

i wouldn't mind having this.

Clark and I continuously oooozz about the Red One camera. Red one camera was founded in 2005 by Jim Jannard, founder of the Oakley company. The company's main product is the Red One, capable of recording at resolutions up to 4096 horizontal by 2304 vertical pixels, directly to flash or hard disk based digital storage. It’s a great camera that gives you really good HD “Industry” quality camera for a not so hefty price. At first consumers thought that red one camera would go for about $250k, but the RED site is saying $17,500 MSRP. Not to bed I think a good investment for UTSA. ^_^

hard candy

Hard candy.

A while back I, bout 3-4 weeks ago I watched a movie called hard candy with Ellen page. The movie was made back in ’05, and it’s about a 14-year old girl who meets up with a 32-year old photographer on the Internet. Suspecting that he is a pedophile, she goes to his home in an attempt to expose him. The movie is really intense but, it sortta kinda relates to what we’ve been talking about in class about the trolls and online predators. Besides the subject matter of the film the movie is very well made with its use of color, I like how it creates a mood by the color tonality and suspension I guess.

I enjoy the use of color in the film to make the viewer feel a certain type of emotion, or to make them feel uncomfortable. And I think that sort of technique can be used wisely in our video art.

collaboration

I would like to discus on my thoughts on collaborating art or performances. I loves it!
I think it’s a great way to open your mind to different ideas besides your own and work on making a unison piece of work. I feel that with my work I am always collaborating being with big medium or a group project, but even in my own personal work, like my self-portraits. I relate to things and events that I experience in that past and when I do a piece I feel the people who I interacted with help me out when doing a self portrait and I see it as a collaboration, there might not be in the video or helped out in the technical way but our experiences are what help me do my work.

Inland Empire

David lynches movie inland empire, is a special kind of film that every time you watch it you can learn something new about the film. There are several plots happening all at once that are not common subjects that can lead the mind to a state of “what the fuck” it indeed is a hard movie to watch specially when as a viewer you keep getting lost in the film, I would find my self thinking and previous scenes and trying to keep up with what was happening at that moment. But nevertheless Inland empire has inspired me in some of my photo work and going for the whole “WTF” feel and awkwardness and from a video point of view the shooting and the colors in the film are really creative and attractive to my taste of color.

HEy yo

well i do not know if many of you kids know but, baby aly aka alyosha dotson purchased a numark VJ thingy magig and will be using it in tonight's BIG MEDIUM performance .

the inspiration for purchasing the video mixing came from leslie, when se decided to show us her equipment, and a string of inspiration came rushing throw me, and i am really excited to work with it and collaborate with my friends in visual and audio projects.

lynchian

this is my idea of lynchian since i couldn't put it in words i took a picture of it.

akward

i just want to confess that for the past week and a half i have stoped my addiction for gossip news and that resulted in me having a dream of me and bittney spears hangging out in her car and listening to her sing her own songs that came up on the radio. i think brittney misses me reading about her.

Negative land

On april the 17th Utah mike and myself went on an adventurous roadtrip to swamptown Houston to see negastive land.
The show was really intresting and inspiering. the poreformance consited of a radio show dealing with topics of religion and evolution and bummy subjects like 9/11. The poreformance dealt with the use of crazy equpment ranging from electrice razors to dj tables and this nifty thing that consists of knobs that when turn creat unusual noises. To me the show seemed more like a preformance art than a actuall music show. it was great.

final event proposal

Video proposal

Performance
Utah, Mike Josh and I will be collaborating in a video audio performance. The plan is to be behind the curtain and having a rear view projection. There will be artist audience interaction. Its pretty much going to be jamming!
We will need a projector, outlets, and tables for our equipment.

Own work
I think I will have a installation piece if I get everything in order and developed and back in time for the show, this piece will show manipulation of the negative. Materials that would be needed for this work I will bring from my house. If that does not happen, plan b is to do a self-portrait and have it be shown as an installation piece.
Projector, dvd player all that good stuff will be needed, if there’s a shortage of projectors I can use a monitor.

Luminaria quikie

i think the event was successful. better than first friday i do say.

I noticed the the crowed appreciated all the pieces but were really fascinated with Connies. I think that interactive works is a good way to introduce the public to a new form of art. It gets them interested in that piece which leads to other pieces and attractions.
the whole event was really smooth and non chaotic, which i appreciate, i really cant stand an obnoxious crowd.

I also noticed that when i placed my self in Joshes piece people were more attracted to it besides in just passing and looking they actually stopped and gave it a little more time.

i think everyone didi great. if i could do anything differently i would of projected my piece on to the window because i think i would of made a better impression but overall i am pleased.

p.s. hundred percent (100%) sure i am buying NuMark nuvj thinggy this weekend, and i am taking it global!
japan here i come.

addiction with tabloids

i think my addiction with entertainment gossip is affecting my media skills
but i really don't get i am so infatuated with this form of nosy media
i mean its intriguing because its reality tv at its best but i think deep down inside i am jealous and i want a mob of papparratzy following me.

BUT why are americans... mostly under 25 young aged girls so into it,i men is this the future of media, instead of getting the top story of the fire man saving the kitty from the tree we are going to be getting full coverage of Paris Hilton yelling "fire crotch" across the street!

i need to put and end to my addiction and put my media talent at good use.

posting!!!

so helo i am finally posting.
yay.
so i finally got the super 8 camera from clark and i am really excited to use it. i am planing on bringing it to Luminaria and try to document the event and try to experiment with it. I asked one of my photography class mates and apparently there is a place here in town that might be able to develop the film so i find that ensuring but just incase i have kodak mail in packets. Anywho but i will try to find out more about this and let ya'll know for future reference.

i think its important for us as video geeks or whateve to learn different ways of achieving video and making videos.

Luminaria proposal

Alyosha Dotson

Luminaria 2008 proposal

My idea is to record images of lights with a variety of colors. The style in which I want to record them is in an out of focus style. I want to give the feel of an illusion or perhaps a vague memory or impression. Equpment that will be needed to show piece:
Option 1:
Use 3 flat screen TV with 3 DVD players and each monitor will show a slightly different image.
I would like the monitors to be mounted on the ceiling looking down onto the viewer.

Option 2:
If the TV is to intense I thought of maybe projecting the images onto each other or just having I image, and it being projected onto a corner. Giving it scene of viewing a reflection from a foreign object. (I would really, really prefer option 1!!!)

There will be sound and will also be needing head-phones, two at the most.
Sound will consist of abstracted sound that I’ve yet to come up with.
